Qualifications for a Veterinary surgeon

Responsibilities of a Veterinary Technician

While working under the supervision of a qualified veterinarian, a technician will be involved in performing various laboratory tests and clinical procedures on animals in the clinic and looking after their dietary requirements.  A good veterinary technician will also have a broad outlook on the different aspects of running a veterinary clinic, putting the animals at ease, being sensitive to their needs and also be able to pacify the worried owners of the sick animals.  In time, he will also be able to read most symptoms and disease and help the surgeon whenever surgery has to be carried out.

It’s also up to the Veterinary technician to keep a record of the animals that are brought to the clinic for treatment. A history of each animal will be entered into a data base for future reference where everything from his date of birth, weight, diet, vaccinations, behavior problems and sicknesses, medicine prescribed etc.  has to be recorded for future reference. Furthermore, he might also have to deal with billing the clients, look into insurance matters etc. especially in a busy organization where the surgeon does not have time for anything else.
