In order to understand the work of a physical therapist, you must be able to understand the elements that constitute physical therapy. This is a very broad term that encompasses a number of different things. In basic and simple terms it is any kind of treatment aimed at improving the physical well being of an individual. Physical therapy is mostly required by people when they have suffered some physical injury or a brain damage. The infliction of some kinds of diseases renders the physical being incapable of normal work and movement. This therapy then attempts to relieve the pain in the specific body parts so that to make them regain their normal activity. Now is a great time to consider training to become a physical therapist!

The job of a physical therapist is involved and rewarding. It can either be performed on a freelance basis or as a full time one by being associated with some health institutions or hospitals. A person who requires physical therapy is not actually ailing. They are convalescing from their illness. Their process of recovery will be helped by a physical therapist. Certain kinds of therapeutic movements can be used to heal the condition. In certain extreme conditions you may need to perform the treatment in successive sittings ranging from two to ten. The charge that you are supposed to levy on your services can be on an hourly basis or on a monthly basis depending on the hours of work you put in. The US Department of Labor considers the job of a physical therapists as one of the higher paid jobs in the country.

Educational Qualification required in becoming a Physical Therapist:

After you complete your High School it is best to pursue a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy itself. Institutions that offer physical therapy in the undergraduate level are not very common. The graduation degree will last for four years. In order to conduct extensive work as a physical therapist you will need a post graduation degree on the subject with your area of interest specified. Completion of the master’s degree will take around two additional years.

Armed with degrees you will not be fully prepared to take on the challenges of a physical therapist you will also need to be skilled in communicating with your patients and treat them with care and compassion. Physical therapy is a rewarding career, there are some great resources online.

For those who love animals and are always looking for ways and means to be with them and care for them, a career in veterinary science can be a perfect choice. You can become a veterinary technician and get work in an animal clinic, a zoo, or even a wildlife park. A veterinary technician has a similar job to a nurse. The training requires specific courses and certification. There are a number of courses and programs for veterinary technicians. Other veterinary jobs include administrator, veterinarian, veterinary surgeon, and large animal veterinarian. Veterinary jobs can be hard work, but they are ideal for someone who loves working with and taking care of animals.

Qualifications for a Veterinary surgeon

The job of a veterinary surgeon is very technical and requires specialized qualifications and training. A veterinary surgeon will have to go through more than a four year degree course. This is a similar commitment to what it takes to become a medical doctor. Becoming a veterinarian is a difficult career path, but can be very rewarding. You can own your own business, be important to members of your community, and help animals every day.

Educational Requirements for a Veterinary Technician

Anyone who wishes to become a veterinary technician must select a course accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association. If you enroll yourself in an unaccredited program, you will have a problem in getting a job. The accredited programs go on for a period of 2 years or more, at the end of which you will get your degree. It is always better to choose something to specialize in such as veterinary behavior, emergency care, internal medicine etc. which will make it much easier in your quest for a job. You should also try to find a program that will give you first hand knowledge of practical experience.

Responsibilities of a Veterinary Technician

While working under the supervision of a qualified veterinarian, a technician will be involved in performing various laboratory tests and clinical procedures on animals in the clinic and looking after their dietary requirements. A good veterinary technician will also have a broad outlook on the different aspects of running a veterinary clinic, putting the animals at ease, being sensitive to their needs and also be able to pacify the worried owners of the sick animals. In time, he will also be able to read most symptoms and disease and help the surgeon whenever surgery has to be carried out.

Other Aspects of a Veterinary Technician’s Job

It’s also up to the Veterinary technician to keep a record of the animals that are brought to the clinic for treatment. A history of each animal will be entered into a database for future reference where everything from his date of birth, weight, diet, vaccinations, behavior problems and sicknesses, medicine prescribed, has to be recorded for future reference. Furthermore, he might also have to deal with billing the clients, look into insurance matters etc. especially in a busy organization where the surgeon does not have time for anything else.

Future Outlook for a Veterinary Technician

As there are so many animal lovers who want the best for their pets, there’s a high demand for veterinary jobs which they say is set to increase in future. A veterinary technician can definitely have a steady clientele and be able to generate a lucrative income. As one of the fastest growing careers in the USA, a technician can always move on in his career and aspire to become a licensed veterinarian with further qualifications and experience. Be sure however, that being a veterinarian is what you want to do, it is a commitment, but can be very rewarding.

Pharmacists are individuals in the medical profession that are responsible for dispensing drugs that have been prescribed to patients. Even though they do not prescribe drugs for individuals, they are still required to give patients any necessary information regarding the prescribed drug and ensure that they understand the health practitioners or doctors instructions as it relates to the drugs. As a result, they tend to have an extended knowledge about the make-up of a drug and how it will react within the body. They may even keep an eye on how the patient is progressing to ensure that the medication dispensed is having a positive impact on the individual and is safe. It is a rewarding, well paying career path.

Education Requirement

In order to become a pharmacist you must first acquire a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree, which is also referred to as Pharm. D. The pharmacy program normally take four years and can be started once a student has completed two years of coursework as an undergraduate and has also passed the Pharmacy college admission test (PCAT). Subjects like biology, chemistry, physiology, anatomy and physics are those that you will encounter when doing coursework in pre-pharmacy and pharmacy.

In addition students in the pharmacy program will be required to do a set rotation in different pharmaceutical and clinical settings. The number and duration of the rotation are different from place to place; however the on average, approximately 7 – 10 rotations are required, with each lasting 4 – 6 weeks. A PharmD can take you up to six years if the decision is made early to pursue pharmacy. However, most students tend to make their decision after college or late in college and end up spending eight years to obtain the degree.

Additionally pharmacists in the United States are required to be successful in the North American Pharmacist Licensure Exam. Many of the states also stipulate that they need to successfully complete the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (MPJE). This is a test which examines your knowledge of pharmacy laws; other states may offer another exam which tests you on the same basis. There may also be additional exams which are specific to states that you may be required to do.

Job Outlook

The future looks bright for pharmacists today, as there is a great demand for those in the field which is expected to continue until about 2016. As result, the job of pharmacist tends to be stable and secure with positions available all over the country. Pharmacists have the option of working in clinics, hospitals, pharmaceutical wholesalers, mail order, physician’s office, internet pharmacies, and even with the federal government.

A pharmacist also has the option of becoming an independent owner or part owner of a pharmacy. This can be sought after once the individual has the necessary capital and some amount of experience. For those who choose to work in chain drugstore, they may receive promotions to store manager or pharmacy supervisor, then to regional or district manager and in time to an executive position at the head office. Those working in the hospital can be promoted to supervisors, while those in the pharmaceutical industry can move forward to areas of research, sales, quality control or marketing.
